Commissions & Committees

The Brea City Council makes use of citizen volunteers acting in an advisory capacity through appointed commissions and committees. Service on these volunteer groups parallels the election cycle, with alternating vacancies usually created by expiring Council terms.

Applications are now being accepted for appointment to upcoming openings on the City of Brea’s commissions and committees. Those with relevant background and interest are encouraged to apply.

Each of these citizen groups plays an important role in the Brea community by making observations and bringing ongoing feedback to the Council Members. Various commissions or committees will have different areas of expertise. At regular monthly meetings, they work with staff members and may be asked to review proposed new projects or to comment on activities already underway around town. Commissioners may also work within their own subcommittees as needs arise. While there is no compensation for participation on commissions and committees, the service given is meaningful to all Brea residents. Positions are normally considered to be either a two or four-year commitment.

General Criteria for Commissioners/Committee Members:

  • Must be a resident of Brea
  • Enthusiastic commitment to the betterment of the community
  • Oriented toward service to people and sensitive to their needs
  • Some knowledge and background in the areas of interest are advantageous, but not mandatory
  • Understanding of the relationship with the City Council and the role of being an extension of the Council
